More Louisiana Businesses to Open May 15th

Effective May 15th, Louisiana is entering Phase 1 to re-open the state for business. During Phase 1, some businesses may re-open at 25% of their occupancy with strict social distancing and enhanced sanitation. The 25% occupancy is determined by the State Fire Marshal and counts both the number of employees and members of the public.

Employees who interact with the public have to wear masks and common waiting areas must stay closed to the public.

Businesses that may re-open with 25% occupancy limits include:

  • Indoor dining at restaurants, cafes and coffee shops (may continue to conduct outdoor service not limited by the 25% of indoor capacity so long as strict social distancing is practiced)
  • Bars and breweries with food permits from the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH)
  • Shopping malls
  • Gyms and fitness centers
  • Barber, beauty shops, and nail salons
  • Movie theaters
  • Racetracks (but are not open to spectators)

Essential businesses may remain open. For a list of businesses that are considered essential, click here.

The following businesses must remain closed:

  • Bars and breweries without LDH food permits
  • Massage establishments, spas and tattoo parlors
  • Carnivals, amusement parks, water parks, trampoline parks, arcades, theme parks and fairs
  • Pool halls and bowling alleys
  • Contact sports, children’s play centers, and playgrounds

Visit OpenSafely.la.gov for more information from the State Fire Marshal’s Office and LDH on how your businesses can open safely and to ensure you are operating at the maximum level allowed.
